No. 8 Russellville notches 20th win

FLORENCE – The No. 8 Russellville varsity baseball team improved to 20-8 this season after sweeping a doubleheader at Florence Saturday.
In the first game, the Golden Tigers snapped a tie against Florence with three runs in the sixth inning to win 12-9.
Seth Rhudy (4-2) earned the victory for Russellville on the mound, while leading hitter Torey Baird, who is batting .471 this season, went 3-for-3 and drove in five funs.
Jake Ward went 3-for-4 with a sacrifice fly, double and two singles, Corey Flanagan went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a single and Ryan Romans and Caleb Mitchell each went 2-for-4 with a single and double.
In the second game, Russellville trailed West Limestone 2-1 in the third but Cory Trapp hit an RBI single to score Flangan and Rhudy drove in Daniel to put the Golden Tigers ahead 3-2.
Ward, who also earned the save with three scoreless innings, hit a one-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to put Russellville ahead 4-2.
The Wildcats' Ryan Wheeler hit an RBI double with one out in the fifth to make it 4-3 and was in scoring position at third but Ward got Trey Rose to pop up in a double play to first baseman Matthew Crawford.
Trapp finished with a pair of RBI singles, and Mitchell and Flanagan both added a steal, walk and single for Russellville.
