PC softball claims Bobcat Classic

PHIL CAMPBELL – The undefeated Phil Campbell junior varsity softball team scored 31 runs en route to three wins Saturday in the Bobcat Classic tournament.
Phil Campbell defeated Russellville 12-0 as Lindsay Jackson and Jesse Halcomb combined to hold the Lady Golden Tigers hitless in the tournament opener.
Amber Chaney batted 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, and Halcomb went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. Sarah Hilliard and Sarah Hester also scored for the Lady Bobcats.
In the second game, the Lady Bobcats used a 10-run first inning to beat Belgreen 14-1.
Jackson struck out three batters while scattering three hits to earn the win for Phil Campbell.
Whitley Yocum hit 2-for-2 with two runs scored, while Jackson went 1-for-3 with a double. Karina Jimenez walked, singled and scored a run, and Hester also scored a run.
In the championship game, Phil Campbell beat Hackleburg 5-1 as Jackson fanned seven hitters while allowing only two hits to earn her third win of the tournament.
Yocum swiped two bases and went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a double, while Kaysie Pounders added a double and scored a run and Taylor Scott went 1-for-2 with a single for the Lady Bobcats (6-0).

Covenant Christian 2
TUSCUMBIA – The Belgreen varsity boys edged Covenant Christian Monday evening as senior Justin Gardner pitched a complete game victory with six strikeouts in seven innings.
Alex Graham went 3-for-4 with three singles, while Trent Edwards and Gardner each batted 2-for-3 with two singles. Shane Fretwell hit a triple and Jordan Williams added a double for the Bulldogs.
Red Bay 12, 16
South Wind 2, 1
OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. – The Red Bay varsity baseball team swept South Wind (Tenn.) in a five-inning doubleheader Friday night to improve to 12-3.
Nathan Hopkins earned the victory in the opening game with nine strikeouts in four innings and also finished with three RBIs and two hits.
Red Bay's Kevin Hastings added two hits, and Nicholas Taylor drove in two runs.
Hastings earned the nightcap victory on the mound with six strikeouts and added four RBIs and two hits for the Tigers.
Chase Lindsey contributed two RBIs and two hits, while Andy Thorn drove in three runs on two hits for the Tigers.
Red Bay will play at Covenant Christian at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
