Hazel E. Massey, 85, of Alexander City, died Sunday, March 9, 2008, at her home. She was born in Franklin County on April 4, 1921, to Marshall and Flossie Morgan Greene.
She was a member of Hillabee Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Bass Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Vince Lee officiating.
Ms. Massey is survived by her daughters, Sara M. Duerr, of Alexander City, and Peggy W. Lewis, of Montgomery; brother, Talton George Massey, of Avon Park, Fla.; sisters, Ruth Moore, of Russellville, and Doris Sherrill, of Nashville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
Ms. Massey was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard Massey; brother, Roy Greene; and sister, Sue Royal.
Donations may be made to Hillabee Baptist Church or Southern Care Hospice.
Bass Funeral Home assisted the family.

Grace Massey James, 93, of Russellville, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2008, in Russellville.
Mrs. James was a lifelong resident of Franklin County and member of First Baptist Church, Russellville.
She was very active in the First Baptist Church for many years where she taught children's Sunday school classes, member of the Women's Missionary group, adult Sunday school classes, and the Building Committee.
She was involved in many civic and community activities including the Russellville Garden Club and The Book Lovers Club. She was a volunteer at Russellville Hospital.
Mrs. James attended Vina High School and Florence State Teachers College, now the University of North Alabama.
Early in her career, she taught in the Franklin County School System.
She was a very loving and involved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 13, at First Baptist Church, Russellville.
Dr. Gene Balding and Bro. Richard Parker officiated the service. Burial was in Knights of Pythias Cemetery.
Survivors include children, Donald Massey James, Birmingham, Alabama, Sara James Graves, Huntsville, Alabama, Olivia James Wages, Tuscumbia, Alabama; grandchildren, Angela W. Rush, David J. Wages, Anna-Katherine G. Bowman, Patrick Graves III, Virginia Grace J. Cohen, Clarence W. James II, Julia J. Abell; great-grandchildren, Olivia M. Rush, Tyler D. Wages, Trey Rush, Grace Ann Wages, Ann-Massey Bowman, Sara-Katherine Bowman, Henry Sims Cohen.
She was preceded in death by husband, Clarence W. James; brother, Fred O. Massey and sister Nellie Noy.
Pallbearers included grandsons, Patrick H. Graves III, David J. Wages, Clarence W. James II, grandsons-in-law, Atwood Bullock Rush Jr., David William Bowman, Eli A. Cohen and Patrick Abell.
Pinkard Funeral Home Russellville directed.
