Commission decides not to close Saxton Road

Several months ago, Benny Hamilton approached the Franklin County Commission, asking that about half a mile along Saxton Road be vacated and closed.
Yesterday morning, residents along that road who would be adversely affected by its closing implored the commission to keep it open.
"There's a lot of older folks who live on that road," Phanell Pride said.
"They use that road to go to the doctors and we want the road to stay open so the fire trucks and ambulance can get through quicker."
Price was one of about 12 residents present at yesterday's public hearing to speak on behalf of keeping the road open.
Three petitions were also presented to the commissioners who elected to keep the road open.
In other business, the commission heard from Doris Grissom, who wanted a bridge along Highway 122 to be reopened.
County engineer David Palmer said the bridge was closed because it was almost a century old and is beyond repair.
