PC, Belgreen win 12-and-under titles

THARPTOWN – The Phil Campbell boys used a late surge to defeat Tharptown 35-29, while the Belgreen girls snapped a tie in the final seconds to stun Vina 8-6 in the 12-and-under championship games of the Franklin County Youth Basketball Organizatoin Saturday.
In the boys game, Phil Campbell used a 5-0 run to take the lead for good in the fourth quarter as Colton Vickery scored eight of his team-high 14 points in the final three minutes.
Tharptown was led by Kelby Hallmark, who had a game-high 16 points, and Jacob Flannagin added nine points.
In the girls game, Belgreen took a 4-1 lead on a turnaround jumper by Darby Hargett and Jasmine Rikard scored off an inbounds pass in the first quarter, while Vina's Sydney Upton hit 1-of-2 free throws and converted a fast break layup to cut the lead to 4-3. Miranda Howard banked in a running jumper to put Vina ahead 5-4 but Lexie Bragwell made a putback to give Belgreen a 6-5 lead. Fallon Shotts hit 1-of-2 free throws with 3:09 left in the final period to tie the game at 6.
With 10.6 remaining, Hargett missed two free throws but stole the rebound from Vina and hit a short jumper at the buzzer to win the game.
