Basketball teams to be commended

By Staff
There is no question that Franklin County football teams are well respected throughout the state.
Both Russellville and Red Bay have had tremendous success in recent years and no 1A school in northwest Alabama ever looks over Vina and Tharptown.
But, it has been on the hardwood where the most success has been seen in recent years. Belgreen's girls won a state championship in 2002 and the lady Tigers from Red Bay have been a regular contender for the blue map.
Today, Red Bay's girls and Russellville's boys will keep their magical seasons going as they begin regional play at Wallace-State Hancevillle. These teams, as well as all other county teams, should be congratulated for a terrific season of basketball.
Franklin County is a special place and much of that has to do with support of our local schools. Let's keep that going.
