Bringing it back downtown

By Staff
Shane Lawler, a native of Haleyville, bought the old 14,000 square foot Clark's Department Store from Gerald and Betty Kiel, of Russellville, in July.
Now, he stands ready, with hammer practically in hand, to make it nearly new again.
The Alabama Historical Commission has listed it on the register and a plaque commemorating that designation will be placed outside of the building.
Many inhabitants of downtown businesses are already shouldering the load of resurrecting the city's downtown.
Willodean Davis recently added a new awning to her storefront, as did Mike Jones and Edward Jones. The Coffee Bean keeps their storefront clean and vibrant with colorful signs and bustling with customers.
It's refreshing to see so many business owners and proprietors taking so much pride in their building, that it's begun to spill over and attract some attention to the area.
