Employee Spotlight

By Staff
Kim West
Name: Brenda Morissette
Hometown: Haleyville
High School: Haleyville
Birthday: January 9
Position/Employer: Owner and dance instructor, Let's Dance Studio
Family: Husband Dr. Yves Morissette; one daughter and two stepsons; four grandchildren
FCT: How many hours per week do you practice or teach lessons?
BM: I practice two to three times for five or six hours and I teach classes six to 10 hours.
FCT: Which dances do your students prefer the most?
BM: Any of the ballroom dances are definitely popular. The waltz is a favorite for most people, along with the rhythm dances. I think shows like "Dancing with the Stars" have helped make ballroom dancing more popular.
FCT: How would you describe your teaching style?
BM: I show dancing one step at a time. The only reason people can't dance is because they're not familiar with the patterns. Once you learn those, you can learn to dance anything.
FCT: Where do you enjoy going to dance?
BM: We go with a group to a place in Sheffield called Southern Stars. We all go as a group and the people there are very nice. Yves and I also like to go to Tupelo, Huntsville and Memphis.
FCT: What are some of your favorite places to visit in this area?
BM: For restaurants, we like everything – we love Italian and seafood. For dancing, we go Southern Stars in Sheffield, and we've also gone dancing in Florence, Tupelo, Memphis and Huntsville.
FCT: How did you meet Dr. Morissette?
BM: We met through a mutual friend. I was working in a doctor's office, and he was a friend of the doctor.
FCT: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time besides dancing?
BM: We both love all kinds of sports, including mountain biking, hiking and running. We like to canoe and kayak, and Yves loves to sail. But since we've been dancing, practicing has taken precedence for us because it takes so much time.
