County awarded cattle scales thanks to turnout

The Franklin County Cattlemen's Association was awarded a digital scale system at the state association's Cowboy Ball Saturday night in Birmingham.
Resident after resident filed into the trade show over the weekend to take part in a contest where the county who could tip a set of cattle scales with the highest collective weight would take the equipment home free of charge.
Will Gregory, General Manager of Fuller Supply Co. – a Birmingham based livestock supply business who donated the scales – said 68 people from Franklin County stopped by the trade show booth to be weighed..
The cornerstone of the event was the installation of Waco resident Orland Britnell as state president, and most of the events of the night surrounded Franklin County.
At the end of the night, more than 12,000 pounds of Franklin County residents lit up the scales ranging in weights from 16 to 320 pounds.
"Franklin County's turnout was impressive," Gregory said. "They beat out Cullman County, who weighted in 44 people, by about 3,000 pounds."
At the end of the night, Franklin County beat out many other counties in both people weighed and total weight, despite being the fifth largest club in the state.
Floyd Willingham, President of the Franklin County Cattlemen's Association said the scales would be made available to the county association's membership as a part of their support program.
The scales have a retail value of $2,000.
