PC edges Red Bay 40-39, wins B-boys championship

PHIL CAMPBELL – Red Bay beat Belgreen at the buzzer in the Franklin County tournament semifinals, but Phil Campbell prevented a sequel in the finals as the Bobcats won 40-39 Saturday to repeat as B-boys champions.
With the game tied for the fifth time, Phil Campbell's Landon Hutcheson drilled a 3-pointer to put the Bobcats ahead 40-37 with three minutes remaining.
Phil Campbell attemped to hold the ball for the last two minutes but Red Bay's Blake Brummet hit a layup to cut the lead to 40-39. With 12.6 seconds remaining, Red Bay had a chance to win the game, but the Tigers' Nathan Gray missed a running jumper at the buzzer and Matt Wait snatched the rebound to preserve the victory.
The opening quarter ended with the score tied at 9 as the lead was tied or changed hands seven times. Hutcheson hit a pair of free throws early in the second quarter to give Phil Campbell the lead until late in the fourth.
Hutcheson led Phil Campbell with 15 points, while Austin Nix and Waid both had seven and Bailey Welborn added six. Hamby (4) and Jeremy Potter (1) also scored for the Bobcats.
Red Bay's Steven Nabers scored a game-high 17 points, including 11 in the third, and Chase Lindsey finished with 13. Brummet (4), Andre Newell (3) and Cody Reynolds (2) also scored for the Tigers.
