Employee spotlight: Joanie McKinney

By Staff
Kim West
Name: Joanie McKinney
Hometown: Russellville
High School: Belgreen
Birthday: February 18
Position/Employer: Sales manager, Anytime Fitness
Family: Husband Tony McKinney; stepdaughter Paige, 11; parents Kerry McAfee and Karen McAfee
FCT: What do you enjoy most about your job?
JM: I like talking with the members and getting to meet new people. I also like working at a fitness center because it keeps you motivated to exercise. We're encouraged to work out two nights per week.
FCT: What are you responsible for during a typical shift?
JM: The sales manager on duty is in charge of all phone calls, emails and messages, along with anyone who comes through the door, whether it's a member or a new person. We also have to be knowledgeable about the equipment.
FCT: What are your most popular services?
JM: Cardio is the most popular, and each one of our cardio marchines has its own flat-screen TV so the members can watch what they want at their own machine if they bring headphones. The guys really like to hit the free weights, but they also use the cardio machines.
FCT: What are some of your favorite places to shop or eat out locally?
JM: I'm not a big shopper, but I do love Wal-Mart. For eating out, I love eating at Rancho (Viejo). I usually go there with family, and we always get the chicken nachos.
FCT: Why is basketball so popular at Belgreen?
JM: I think it's the tradition, because we've always had good boys and girls teams, and the girls won the (Class 1A) championship in 2001.
FCT: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
JM: I'm probably going to play in the Belgreen reunion game in March, but I don't play basketball that much anymore. I've picked up tennis, and it's something I've really enjoyed. Tony likes to play golf, and I like trying to play golf. Lately there hasn't been much spare time because we've been going to a lot of weddings and showers on the weekends.
