AHSAA forms partnership with Jason Foundation
MONTGOMERY – The Alabama High School Athletic Association, supported by Attorney General Troy King, announced Thursday a landmark partnership with The Jason Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization founded by Clark Flatt that addresses the national/state health problem of youth suicide.
Suicide is the third leading cause of death for youths age 15 to 24 and fourth for youths age 10 to 14 nationally. According to a 2005 Youth Risk Behavioral Survey in Alabama conducted by the Center for Disease Control involving students in grades 9 through 12, one in every seven students in Alabama has made plans to attempt suicide, and 28.5 percent, or one in every four students, suffered feelings of hopelessness and depression-over 93,000 Alabama youth. One in every six, 17.1 percent, seriously had considered suicide.
More detailed information regarding the subject is available at www.jasonfoundation.com.
