Something must be done

By Staff
The Franklin County Commission is once again asking our local legislators to introduce measures that would allow the county to implement a sales tax to create funds for industrial development.
In recent years there has been tremendous progress made in Colbert and Lauderdale counties because the two worked together for progress. The same thing is happening to the south, in Winston and Marion counties, where local municipalities are working together to attract industries.
Whether or not the commission's sales tax proposal moves forward or not, it is time that the county takes drastic steps to catch up with our neighbors. We have to find an answer to help us move forward. That could or could not mean a small tax increase. But it is the community's responsibility to find out exactly what the proposal is about and what it could mean. Talk to our legislators or your commissioner.
Moving the county forward is critical at this time as industries move all around us. Let's find a way, some way, to be a part of that.
