Florence woman behind bars for identity theft, fraud

A Florence woman remains in the Franklin County Jail on charges of identity theft and fraudulent use of a credit card.
Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said Margaret Suzanne Adams, 37, of 1302 McGough Ave. in Florence, was taken into custody last week for allegedly applying for and using a credit card in someone else's name.
"Ms. Adams is charged with identity theft and 20 counts of fraudulent use of a credit card," Hargett said.
According to Hargett, Adams ran up a bill of more than $2000 on the card.
According to the Alabama Criminal Code, identity theft and fraudulent use of a credit are both Class C felonies, which is punishable with one year and one day to 10 years in prison on each count upon conviction.
Adams remains in the Franklin County Jail.
Her bond has been set at $52,300. According to the Department of Justice, identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the U.S.
