Getting off to a good start

By Staff
Kim West
Most New Year's resolutions seem to fall under three major categories: Health, money and happiness. According to USA.gov, popular resolutions include losing weight, paying off debt, drinking less, reducing stress, eating right or taking a trip.
These are all worthwhile resolutions, but we tend to think of them as aspirations instead of goals. Someone once said, "if you fail to plan, you plan to fail." It's a really simple saying, but resolutions won't come true just by making them.
The challenge of resolutions is figuring out how to stick with them throughout the year and finding time to achieve them. I also think you have to really want to change, which is the hardest part about kicking a bad habit, whether it's a fast-food diet or three packs a day. Even if you think you need to stop doing something, it doesn't you mean you really want to stop.
I've never made New Year's resolutions before, but I'm going to give them a try. I probably shouldn't even use the word try – as Yoda said, "There is no try, only do."
So, here's what I'm going to do in 2008, in no particular order:
I have a lot more I want to accomplish in '08 besides these resolutions, but these should be a good start. Good luck with your resolutions and have a safe and happy New Year's holiday.
