Vina edges Tharptown, McCluskey leads Lady Wildcats

VINA – With Tharptown leading in the final minutes, B.J. Beard drilled three back-to-back treys to lift the Vina varsity boys to a 68-65 win Tuesday night.
Brent Townsend helped seal the win with 8 seconds left on the clock as Vina clung to a 66-65 lead by sinking two free throws. Tharptown shot a desperation 3-pointer for the tie, but it bounced off the rim in the closing seconds
Beard made six 3-pointers and led Vina with 18 points and five steals, while Townsend, who was 8-of-8 from the free throw line, had 17 points, six rebounds and four steals.
Blake Thorn added 12 points and five rebounds, and Cass White came off the bench to score 11 points and grab four rebounds.
Tharptown junior shooting guard Joseph Parker had a team-high 18 points, while Manny Ricardo had 17 and Trevor Hallmark added 15.

The Tharptown varsity girls beat Vina 67-38 as the Lady Wildcats broke open a close game with a 26-9 run in the second quarter.
Chelsea McCluskey scored 20 points for Tharptown, while Hollie Hines had 17 and Laken Barnett added 10.
Heather Holland led Vina with a game-high 27 points and six rebounds.
