Prep basketball schedule
December 21
Russellville sweeps Colbert County
LEIGHTON – The Russellville varsity boys used hot shooting and an effective full-court press to beat Colbert County 84-44 Friday night.
The Golden Tigers (5-0) led by 13 points heading into the final period, but they overwhelmed the Indians with a 30-3 run.
Russellville was led by Terence Smith and Jermaine Bates, who each scored 21 points, and Jordan Hammond, who finished with 10.
Justin Noceda had 17 points to lead Colbert County.
In the varsitiy girls game, Russellville raced out to a 24-8 lead to defeat Colbert County 71-52 Friday night.
The Lady Golden Tigers earned their fifth victory as 10 different players scored. Tasha West scored a team-high 21 points, while JaLesa Hamilton scored 15 points and Erin Ryenolds added 11.
Liz Noceda led Colbert County with a game-high 23 points.
3rd Annual RBHS baseball clinic
December 20-22
RED BAY – The Red Bay baseball program is holding its fourth annual hitting clinic on Thursday, Dec. 20 and Friday December 21.
The clinic will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday and from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. There will also be a pitching clinic held Saturday, Dec. 22 with a minimum of 10 players.
The featured hitting instructor will be Northeast Mississippi assistant coach and former professional baseball player Richie Harrelson, who won a state championship at Fayette and played and coached at Ole Miss.
Participants (1st-12th grades) will be taught the fundamentals of hitting by Harrelson and the Red Bay coaching staff.
Registration is $40 per player. For more information, contact Red Bay coach Donny Hastings at 668-3557.
UNA-Marriott Shoals Classic
December 29-30
FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama women's basketball program will host the Marriott Shoals Classic Dec. 29-30 at Flowers Hall.
UNA will play St. Leo Dec. 29 at 4 p.m. and Kentucky Wesleyan Dec. 30 at 4 p.m.
Millenium Run
December 31
The annual Millenium Run 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run will be held Monday, December 31. The race is the only midnight run in north Alabama, and it will be held at First Baptist Church in Killen beginning at 11:45 p.m. For more information, contact Frank Spires at fspires@spiresandassociations.com or (256) 760-9502.
