The Russellville Fire Department has been spreading holiday cheer to residents at local nursing homes by offering residents and their families the opportunity to get some one-on-one time with Santa.
Santa, known locally as Russellville Firefighter Shane Mansell, went from room to room greeting every each resident and wishing them a very Merry Christmas to everyone.
"Santa visits our home every year during our Christmas party," Burns Nursing Home Activities Director Terina McGalliard said.
Family members flocked to the home in time to see their loved one meet Santa. The family members and the Burns staff gave gifts to the residents while Santa made his rounds.
"Russellville Hospital helped us with gifts for some of the residents this year," McGalliard said.
The Russellville Fire Department provides a Santa for all of the city's nursing homes as a community service. Mansell said they visit the homes during their annual Christmas parties and visit with all of the residents, even those who are not well enough to leave their rooms.
McGalliard said the Burns Christmas party is an annual event for the residents and their family. A special meal is prepared in house for the event, and the employees, residents and their families are able to enjoy a Christmas dinner together.
Burns Nursing Home serves 57 residents and is a privately owned facility.
