BELGREEN – It may not be on the high school curriculum this year, but it's something administrators at Belgreen School feel is just as important: A book of the school's history.
Eddie Britton, former principal and a 1971 alumnus of the school, said the book was a collaborative effort by alumni, faculty, staff, family and friends to preserve memories that have already begun to fade.
"We lose a little of our history every year," Britton said. "People pass away and their stories go with them."
The book, titled "Legacy: The History of Belgreen High School and Community," contains 113 pages of photos, biographies of past students, enrollment from classes dating back to the 1920s, class officers of years past and fond memories spanning many decades.
"We plan to do another one, maybe in two or three more years, to pick up where this one leaves off," he said. "We've already seen and noticed some things that we would want to put in another edition."
Britton extended his thanks to all those whom he said made this venture possible, including Belva Jones, Ray Kuykendall, Maxine King, the late Roy Hester, Jason Hill, Jamie Lindsey, Belva DeVaney, Karen Townsend and his mother, Ruby Streetman Britton.
The books are available for $30 each. Those interested may contact Belgreen School or Britton directly.
