A Russellville man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after being found operating a bicycle while intoxicated.

By Staff
Franklin County Sheriff Larry Plott said that deputies responded to a call reporting that a man was operating a bicycle while under the influence Friday morning on Highway 43 North near the county line. Deputies found the man riding his bike with a cooler strapped around him.
Plott said that Mateo Perez, age 31, of Eastside Apartments in Russellville, was taken into custody and charged with DUI and illegal possession of prohibited liquor.
"Mr. Perez's bicycle was impounded at the count jail," Plott said.
Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said that the Alabama DUI statute says that anyone operating a horse, bicycle or a car can be charged with DUI.
According to the Alabama Criminal Code, DUI is a Class A misdemeanor, which is punishable with no more than one year in jail.
