THAPRTOWN – Last year's Nashville Star siblings Zac and Angela Hacker returned to their roots for a benefit performance for Tharptown Elementary School's new playground equipment Saturday night.
PTO President Charlotte Hatton said more than 700 tickets were sold for the event, but no final numbers have been released.
"A lot of people came and paid at the door instead of buying advance tickets," Hatton said.
Hatton added that 200 of those tickets were floor seating, and other guests were seated in the bleachers.
With only few minutes before show time, the Hackers arrived at the newly built Tharptown gym via helicopter and immediately entered the building.
Zac said he and his sister were both working on new records, and they each had one disc out already.
"We are so lucky to be back home, and we are excited to be able to help out," he said.
He added that the pair spent time at the Alabama Music Hall of Fame encouraging youngsters to follow their dreams.
In addition to ticket sales, the school was able to sell concessions at the concert to increase revenue for the playground project. Food sold at the concert was donated by a local business.
"We want to thank all of our sponsors and everyone who helped with the concert," Hatton said.
The PTO has been raising money for new playground equipment for more than a year, and is getting close to having enough to finish it.
"We have some of the equipment in already, but we still need more to finish the project," Hatton said.
After the concert, Zack and Angela spent time with the fans during a meet and greet session.
