Terrace Manor Nursing Home and Rehab Center kicked off its Halloween festivities with an employee pumpkin-decorating contest yesterday.
Christy Kaundart, Emily Tidwell, Debbie Bowling and Eyelene Thornton won a $50 gift certificate from Michael's Chinese Buffet in Russellville with their pumpkin-in-a-casket display.
Contest participants were divided into teams, and the teams were given the same materials and amount of time to decorate their pumpkins, which were judged by Mark McCullar, a representative from Hospice of North Alabama.
Jewel Lindsey, Angie Saint, Pam Wilson, Martha Glasgow, Connie Sears and Penelope Austin captured second place with their Wizard of Oz-inspired design, and Darlene Borden, Bridgett Williams and Patricia Borden's "Lamont" skeleton won third place.
"This was the first annual pumpkin contest at Terrace Manor," said Activities Director Wendell Greenleaf, who organized the event along with Sheila Cushley, activities assistant. "Everybody had a great time, and the residents loved it."
Terrace Manor will sponsor a costume contest for the residents today at 10:30 a.m. in the lobby.
