School seeking recipes for fundraiser

By Staff
Melissa Cason
The members of the Russellville Middle School chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) are collecting recipes and taking orders for their cookbook.
FCCLA Advisor Lori Parker said the club is an extension of her Family and Consumer Science class at RMS. The class, formerly know as home economics, teaches students about working in the home while balancing a career and family.
The class teaches the importance of proper nutrition, sewing, cooking and domestic skills.
"The money raised from the cookbook sales will fund our club activities and purchase supplies for our classroom as we need them," Parker said.
The cookbook will be a collage of recipes collected by community members, students and their families, the faculty and staff at RMS.
The book is being pre-sold by students now through Oct. 19 so the class will know how many copies to order.
"We will order a few extra, but when those sell out we will not reorder," Parker said.
She added that the students are very involved with many aspects of the project including the selection of the name and cover artwork.
"The name of the cookbook will be T-House Recipes, and the students voted on the name," Parker said.
In addition to voting on the name, the Art 2 class is busy working on designs for the cover, and the classes will vote on the cover design in the coming weeks.
The deadline for ordering and recipe submission is Oct. 19. The cookbooks will be delivered in mid-December. Each cookbook cost $10.
Contact Lori Parker at lparker@rcs.k12.al.us or via telephone at 332-2120 ext. 1521 to order a cookbook or to submit a recipe.
