Phil Campbell falls to Phillips 36-18

By Staff

PHIL CAMPBELL – Early turnovers and Phillips' opportunistic offense disrupted homecoming Friday night for the Phil Campbell Bobcats.
Phillips forced five turnovers, including three in the first quarter that led to two scoring drives, as the visiting Bears upended Phil Campbell 36-18.
After Phillips took an early 12-0 lead, Phil Campbell's Stephen Lacey answered with a 10-yard run to narrow the gap to 12-6.
With just 18 seconds left in the first half, the Bears' Matt Wilson added his second score of the evening when he scored from two yards out. After an Adam McCarley two-point conversion, the lead increased to 20-12. Wilson scored again during the fourth quarter, and the Bears added a three-yard run and 27-yard touchdown pass for their final 18 points.
Phil Campbell's Chase White returned a kickoff 85 yards with less than three minutes left to play for the game's final 36-18 margin.
The hard-luck Bobcats (0-5, 0-3) are still looking for their first win this season after opening 2007 against the top three teams in Class 2A, Region 8 – Tanner, Red Bay and West Morgan.
Phil Campbell will play at Cherokee next Friday night.
