RPD officers reach out to Cub Scouts

The Bears of Cub Scout Pack 39 learned about the importance and responsibilities of law enforcement during their den meeting this week.
Sgt. Shannon Oliver with the Russellville Police Department showed the boys how to collect fingerprints correctly. Each Scout had to be fingerprinted as part of the lesson.
"The lesson teaches our boys what a big job law enforcement has in our community," Cubmaster Elliott Gordon said.
The boys also got to see inside Sgt. Oliver's patrol car. He showed them how the lights and siren work. The Scouts had the opportunity to sit inside the car in both the front and back seats.
Oliver also talked to the boys about handcuffing, and each boy took their turn at being handcuffed. The parents remarked that they should remember what the handcuffs feel like and never have them on again.
Oliver spent about an hour with the den, answering questions, and showing them different aspects of his job. At the end, Oliver and the boys enjoyed a snack of homemade cookies made by a Cub Scout mom.
