Red Bay police get $20K from Congress

Rep. Robert Aderholt, R-Haleyville, announced that he was able to secure $20,000 in federal funding in the Fiscal Year 2008 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies appropriations bill for the City of Red Bay.
"Local law enforcement officials have a difficult job as it is. This is made even more difficult without the necessary equipment," said Congressman Aderholt. "The funding in this bill will help the officers in Red Bay do their job more efficiently."
The bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives yesterday by a vote of 281 to 142.
The money will be used to provide the necessary police equipment including items for the canine drug unit, training, a car insert, ballistic shield, and five tactical vests.
"It's much needed equipment especially since we lost so much during last year's fire," Sgt. Scottie Belue said. "Anything we can get, new or used, is like opening up a Christmas present for us."
He added that Congressman Aderholt has always been good about getting law enforcement the things needed to do their job, and that is very much appreciated.
The FY2008 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies bill provides the annual funding for several federal departments including the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Justice Department, NASA and other agencies. The bill now moves to the U.S. Senate for further consideration.
