Local does well in golf tourney

By Staff
Franklin County native, Johanna Johnson West recently participated in the Elizabeth Norman Sutton Memorial Golf Tournament at the Hilton Golf Course in Cancun, Mexico.
Approximately 80 other women from Mexico and the United States participated in the event. The Annual Memorial three-day event generates proceeds in honor of the winners, to help fund and support local charity organizations in Cancun.
In 2007, $40,000 was available for distribution by the tournament winners.
The second day of the event, Johanna was in contention for second place in the tournament. She fell to third on the second day but failed to maintain her third place position at the tournament's close.
However, she was awarded second place for hitting her ball closest to the pin on a tee-shot that landed 51-inches from the hole.
She was awarded a Swiss Calvin Klein watch and a week's vacation at the Royal Resorts in Curacao, Netherlands and Antilles.
Johanna is the daughter of Betty Johnson Smith and the late Wayne Johnson of Russellville.
She is a graduate of Belgreen High School and the Culverhouse School of Accountancy from the University of Alabama.
She resides in Playa del Carmen, Mexico with her husband, Anthony West.
