Next Saturday, Franklin County's letter carriers will be picking up something besides letters.
May 12 marks the 15th annual Stamp Out Hunger campaign by the National Association of Letter Carriers.
On that day, letter carriers will collect non-perishable donations as they deliver mail along their postal routes.
The food drive is the largest one-day food drive in the nation.
Carriers collected 70.5 million pounds of food in 2006, the third consecutive year the effort has exceeded 70 million pounds.
Postal patrons across the county are asked to leave non-perishable goods either inside their mailbox, or close to the box or post, and the letter carriers will pick them up while running their route.
Since its inception in 1993, the nationwide drive has collected and delivered over three-quarters of a billion pounds of food-765.5 million pounds-to help hungry families.
All of the goods collected in Franklin County will go to the Faith Mission Outreach and other Franklin County organizations.
