Helping wage the war on cancer

By Staff
Jason Cannon, FCT Publisher
A single person cannot win a war and even the most valiant army that is out-numbered will have a hard time winning their fight.
That's why a successful war effort required a strong and dedicated army that is hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of men and women deep.
From now until May 1, the Franklin County Times will donate $10 from the sale of each annual subscription toward the fight against cancer. We'll also donate $5 from each six-month subscription.
Many people think that with the billions and billions of dollars that are needed to fund cancer research each year, their contribution won't amount to much. That couldn't be further from the truth.
Your donation of $5, $10, or even 50 cents is part of millions of other donations of $5, $10, and more 50-cent contributions.
When you add all that up, you've got several thousand dollars that could come right out of Franklin County. Add that to what was collected in other Alabama counties and you've got a few million dollars raised statewide.
The number just keeps growing as you add more small piles to the big pile.
Your $10 or $5 contribution will go a long way to finding a cure to one of the nation's biggest killers and we'll provide you with a subscription to the Franklin County Times, which will let you, keep up with the happenings with all your friends and neighbors.
Hopefully, you'll open up your newspaper and see the headline "Cancer eradicated" in bold type on our front page. That story is a lot closer than many people think and it's thanks to things like Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society that we inch closer everyday.
Nothing would make us happier than to make one huge donation to Relay before their May 4 festivities. Well, maybe one thing would make us happier: Running that headline I mentioned above.
Until we can break that great news we'll keep publishing other good news and keep sweeping small piles into big piles. All we ask is that you join us.
Please call Charles Pounders at 256-332-1881 and subscribe today. He'll make sure your donation gets to the right hands and that your newspaper gets delivered to your home.
