Council votes to purchase police motorcycle

The Russellville City Council Monday night voted to add to the city police force's rolling stock with a little bit of style.
The council voted to purchase a 2007 Harley Davidson Electra Glide, which Police Chief Chris Hargett said would be used to work traffic details that can tie up a patrol car for several hours.
"What we're going to do is use the motorcycle to patrol the four-lanes, Highway 24 and 43, and use it to work wrecks and funerals," Hargett said.
By using the cycle to work accidents and traffic on the major highways, Hargett said the city would be able to keep it's patrol cars closer to town and patrolling neighborhoods.
The lowest bid for the motorcycle, $13,995, came from Rider Harley Davidson in Trussville.
According to the Harley Davidson website, the manufacturer's suggested retail price for a standard 2007 Electra Glide is $16,525. The new police bike is expected to be an active member of the Russellville police department by early spring and will be equipped with the department's striping package and lights.
