The graveside funeral for Nina Wakefield Wages, age 94, of Russellville, will be at 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, at Knights of Pythias Cemetery, with Dr. Gene Balding, the Rev. Clint Busler and the Rev. Joe Lennox officiating. Burial will be in Knights of Pythias Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-2:30 p.m. at Spry Memorial Chapel before the graveside service.
Mrs. Wages died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, at Russellville Health Care. She was born Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1911, in Carbon Hill, Ala., the daughter of George Lafayette Wakefield and Sara Frances Sides Wakefield. She was a homemaker, mother and a wonderful cook. She enjoyed receiving friends and relatives in her home. She was a piano teacher at Russellville public schools for 15 years.
Mrs. Wages attended Carbon Hill High School and finished her high school years at Lula Compton Seminary Finishing School in Birmingham, Ala. She then attended the University of Alabama, where she was a music major and member of Delta Zeta Sorority. She married Erskine Berry Wages in 1931. They were married 67 years.
She was a pianist for the preschool Sunday school class and active on the Women's Missionary Union and other activities at Russellville First Baptist Church, where she was a member. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends, attending her study club and was a remarkable pianist/musician.
Mrs. Wages was preceded in death by her husband, Erskine Berry Wages;, her mother, Sara Frances Wakefield; her father, George Lafayette Wakefield; her brothers, Audley Lafayette Wakefield Sr. and John Frances Wakefield.
Mrs. Wages is survived by her daughters, Suzanne Wages Langcuster and husband, James Cecil Langcuster, Nina Jane Wages Forman and husband, Charles Edmon Forman, and Sara Dianne Wages Pace and husband, Barry Dale Pace; grandchildren, Jim and Beth Langcuster, John and Christy Langcuster, Ed and Brenda Forman, Wages and Jennifer Forman, Mike and Laurie Taylor, Brian and Jenny Pace, Brent and Lori Pace; 11 great-grandchildren; two nephews, Jim Wakefield and Jim Sides; and one niece, Sue Frances Byars.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jim Langcuster, John Langcuster, Ed Forman, Wages Forman, Brian Pace, Brent Pace and grandson-in-law, Mike Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Lilly Claude Rooks' Sunday school class at First Baptist Church.
The family would like to recognize with grateful thanks to the staff of Country Cottage, Russellville Health Care and Good Samaritan Hospice for being wonderful angels of mercy to our mother. Thanks also for all the special visits and prayers on behalf of the whole family. May God be with you and His tender mercies shower blessings on those who show concern and love for others.
