Support the Bay Tree Council performances

By Staff
One of the most common complaints people voice about Franklin County is that there is too little in the way of entertainment.
That's not true, but you hear it around the county.
To counter-argue that point, in the fall you always have high school football games on Friday night, and entertainment doesn't come much better than a school-spirit-infused battle under Friday night lights. Also, there are several local bands that sometimes play in the area, and a few restaurants that offer weekly live music.
But coming up later this fall in Red Bay is entertainment that doesn't get nearly the credit it deserves.
The Bay Tree Council for the performing arts in Red Bay recently announced its 2006-2007 season and auditions for its first performance, Night Watch, which will be directed by Charlton James. Auditions were held recently and rehearsals begin in September.
The play will be presented on the dates of Oct. 26-29 2006.
In the play Night Watch, Elaine Wheeler, unable to sleep, paces the living room of her apartment, troubled by unsettling memories and vague fears. Her husband tries to comfort her, but when he steps away for a moment Elaine screams as she sees (or believes she sees) the body of a dead man in the window across the way. The police are called, but find nothing except an empty chair. Elaine's terror grows as shortly thereafter she sees still another body – this time a woman's – but by now the police are skeptical and pay no heed to her frantic pleas. Her husband, claiming that Elaine may be on the verge of a breakdown, calls in a lady psychiatrist, who agrees with his suggestion that Elaine should commit herself to a sanitarium for treatment.
From this point on, the plot moves quickly and grippingly as those involved all contribute to the suspense and mystery of the play.
The second production of the season will be A Bad Year for Tomatoes February 15-18, 2007 and the final production will be Play On April 26-29, 2007.
This group of talented individuals does a great job putting on community theater events. It's a great activity to get involved in by auditioning and being a part of the show, but if acting isn't your thing, just buy a ticket and check out the play.
