RHS hires Homewood coach to be coordinator

If you can't beat them, hire them.
That may not be exactly how the old saying goes, but the Russellville Golden Tigers are willing to give it a try.
The city school board was expected on Thursday to approve the hiring of Homewood assistant coach Kelvis White as the Golden Tigers' new defensive coordinator.
White replaces Robert Jeter, who left earlier this month to take a job at Auburn High School after eight years at Russellville.
"All the things we were saying about Coach Jeter when he left are the same things we've been hearing about Coach White," Russellville superintendent Dr. Wayne Ray said. "He comes very highly recommended, and we're very excited to have him as part of our program.
"What better credentials can you have than having coached at Homewood the past five years?"
White, a Courtland native who played defensive tackle at the University of Alabama from 1997-2000, has spent the past five seasons coaching the defensive line at Homewood High School.
During White's tenure at Homewood the Patriots dealt Russellville three season-ending defeats, including the 2002 and 2004 Class 5A state championship games.
"You always want to find the best coaches," Russellville head coach Perry Swindall said. "You can't replace a guy like Coach Jeter, but we're very fortunate to be bringing in Coach White. He's a really good football coach, and he can help us get our program where we want it to be.
"He wanted to be a coordinator, and Homewood didn't have a coordinator position available. We think he'll make a real difference on our staff."
