Tigers drop sectional match

Red Bay High School's boys tennis team suffered its first sectional loss of the season on Thursday, falling 6-3 to Lauderdale County.
Despite the loss by the Tigers (3-2, 3-1 Class 2A, Section 5), Wesley Jarnigan remained undefeated (5-0) in singles play with an 8-4 victory over Lauderale County's Landyn Masoner.
Red Bay's Anthony Horton improved to 4-0 in sectional matches with an 8-4 win over Dillon Birdwell.
Jarnigan and Matthew Young improved to 3-1 in sectional doubles play with an 8-4 win over Dusty Eady and Chad Menard.

Dusty Eady (LC) d. Matt Young (RB) 8-5
Chad Menard (LC) d. Jeremy Johnson (RB) 8-5
Anthony Reed (LC) d. Toby Gray (RB) 9-7
Ryan Owens (LC) d. John Thigpen (RB) 9-7
Doubles
Masoner-Reed (LC) d. Johnson-Horton (RB) 8-3
Owens-Birdwell (LC) d. Gray-Armstrong (RB) 8-6.
Young and Gray both fell to 3-1 in sectional singles play, and Horton and Johnson are now 3-1 in sectional doubles.
"Our goal every year is to win section,” Red Bay coach Sonny Glasgow said. &#8220Although our boys team only returned one starter from last year, we have surprised some schools and we possibly may win our section tournament. We have an excellent chance to qualify for the state tournament.
The sectional tournament will be April 24 in Florence.
In varsity girls action on Thursday, Lauderdale County defeated Red Bay 8-1.
Lydia Hammock and Paige Palmer won for Red Bay (0-5, 0-4) in doubles play, defeating Logan Crumbley and Savannah Grosch 8-5.

Red Bay is scheduled to play a junior varsity match at Russellville High School on Wednesday.
