Weeks leads Red Devils past Tremont

By Staff
Mike Self FCT Sports Editor
Max Weeks struck out seven batters in a complete game and also drove in three runs on Monday as Vina hammered Tremont 15-1.
Gary Taylor added three RBIs and Kerry Lawler scored four runs as the Red Devils (12-2) won their second straight following a loss to Phillips last Thursday that snapped a nine-game win streak.
Weeks, Vina's fourth starter, allowed just one run on two hits in five innings on Monday. He walked one batter and hit another.
Offensively, the Red Devils managed just six hits but took advantage of 12 walks.
Lawler walked four times and was hit by a pitch, and Randy Barnes added four walks and three runs scored.
Taylor and Weeks each finished with two hits, and Corey Scott added an RBI double.
Anthony Hester walked twice and scored two runs, and Paul Wilkins added a hit and two runs scored. Luke Childers also scored.
Vina might have been expected to take a step back this year after the graduation of ace pitcher Patrick McCarley and key performers J.P. Cantrell and Seth Holmes, but the Red Devils seem poised to threaten last season's record win total of 20.
Vina plays at Belgreen Friday at 1 p.m.
