Miss RHS Pageant set for Saturday night

The 23rd annual Miss RHS Pageant will be held on Saturday, March 5, at the Russellville High School auditorium.
This event is sponsored by the RHS Annual Staff. In recognition of the 75th anniversary of the Russellville City School System, the theme of the pageant is "Celebration."
Serving as emcee for the evening is Mallory Wooten, Miss UNA 2005 and former Miss RHS 2003. Mallory is the daughter of Dr. Jeff and Mrs. Jquan Wooten. She is a 20-year old junior at UNA majoring in biology and English-as-a-second language.
She is co-chair of Leadership UNA and president of Phi Eta Sigma. She is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Delta Epsilon Iota honor societies and the Secondary Education Association. At
RHS, she was a member of the Annual Staff-Business &Circulation /Baby Ads/Majorette Editor, FBLA, FCA-Secretary, HOSA-President, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society-Treasurer, Newspaper Staff, Spanish Club, Student Booster Club, Student Council-President, Senior Class Who's Who, Freshmen Class Treasurer, Sophomore and Junior Class President, Marching Band, Head Majorette, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and National Young Leaders Conference Nominee.
Special entertainment will be provided by last year's Miss RHS, Brandi Poss, and Addie Pickett, Franklin County's Junior Miss 2005.
Brandi is the daughter of Tim and Karen Poss. Following graduation from RHS, Poss attended the University of Alabama-Birmingham on a cheerleader scholarship. She recently transferred to UNA where she is majoring in biology. She has participated in Miss Alabama preliminary contests where she promotes the Foster Care Program as her platform. She also works as a volunteer with the Foster Care Program.
In high school she served on the Annual Staff as sports assistant editor, Newspaper Staff, Environmental Science-Secretary, FBLA, FCCLA, FTA, HOSA, RHS Singers, Show Choir, Science Club, Student Booster Club, Student Council, SADD, VICA, JV Cheerleader, and Varsity Cheerleader.
Addie Pickett is the daughter of Wally and Penny Pickett. She was named Franklin County Junior Miss in August 2004 where she received the academic award, fitness awards and Spirit of Junior Miss Award.
She participated in the state Junior Miss Program in December where she was awarded the sportsmanship award. Pickett plans to attend UNA in the fall on a full tuition scholarship. She has been involved with jazz, tap, ballet and gymnastics classes for the last 10 years.
As a senior at RHS, she is involved in numerous activities such as the Annual Staff, Newspaper Staff, Art Club, Chemistry Club-Treasurer, FBLA, Key Club-Treasurer, FCA, FCCLA, Golden Girls, HOSA, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, POWER Mentoring Group, Science Club, Student Booster Club-Vice President, Student Council, Senior Class President, SADD, Varsity Cheerleader-Head, UCA All-Star Cheerleader, Homecoming Court-1st Alternate, Academic Excellence, and Franklin County Junior Leadership Program.
Serving as escorts for the 32 contestants and special guests are: Kyle Baker, Roge Bedford, Ty Cox, Aaron Harbin, Harold Harris, Matthew Humphries, Brett Keelon, Adam Lindsey, Jesse McKinney, Aaron Pennington, Chris Pincombe, Art Richey, Luke Robinson, Curt Thorne, Robert Thornton, Joshua Upchurch, Ty Wells, Kevin Williams, and Nicholas Woods. They will also be featured in the opening and closing numbers with Harold Harris and Chris Pincombe performing solos.
Tickets may be purchased in advance at the high school or at the door on the night of the pageant. All tickets are reserved. The prices are $9 for lower section and $7 for balcony. All proceeds go to the Annual Staff to help defray the cost of the yearbook to the students.
Several former annual staff members continued their careers in some phase of journalism.
Fred Thompson, 1959 RHS Yearbook Editor-in-Chief, is president and founder of Book Production Resources Company (BPR) in Tampa, Fla. He received his B.S. in Printing Technology and Management at the Rochester Institute of Technology and B. J. from the School of Journalism at the University of Missouri. Before founding his own publication company, Mr. Thompson worked with the Von Hoffman Press of St. Louis as Textbook Production Planner. He also worked as Design and Production Manager of the University Georgia Press. One local business which contracts the printing of their quarterly magazine with BPR is the Tiffin Motor Home Company in Red Bay.
Thompson will attend the 75th Anniversary coffee honoring RHS alumni on Saturday, March 5, from 9:30 until 11 a.m. in the auditorium. He will speak on careers in journalism as well as display some of his company's publications.
Tim Jackson, 1985 Yearbook Ads Sales Editor, recently accepted the position as Assistant Director of Student Media at Radford University in Radford, Va. While in high school, Tim served as sports writer for the Franklin County Times. As a student at The University of Alabama, he was writer for the Crimson White. Later he worked as editor of Tusk, an arts and entertainment publication and editorial assistant for Antique Monthly Magazine in Tuscaloosa.
Mary Jane Baker, 1991 Yearbook Senior Editor/Organizations, founded her own Kids Life Magazine in 2000. She graduated from The University of Alabama with a degree in Secondary Mathematics Education. After teaching for three years, she started working with a local real estate magazine. She was quick to learn software programs which gave her the confidence to start her own publication for the Tuscaloosa area that would cater to families and children.
Tracy Wood Franklin, 1991 Yearbook Senior Assistant Editor/Organizations, works with Mary Jane as her art director. Tracy also worked with the Franklin County Times before moving to Tuscaloosa. Some of Baker's magazines will also be on display.
Millie Hancock Nohren, 1988 Yearbook Senior Editor/Ads/Organizations, works as a freelance writer and correspondent for the Tampa Tribune.
Laurie Graves Rubbo, 1988 Yearbook Senior Editor, works with Russell Corporation in Atlanta as trends and fashion presenter for the firm which requires travel to Asia, Europe, and other countries.
Replicas of yearbook covers (one from each decade) will be on display in the auditorium. These were made by Kayla McKinney and Whitney Long, yearbook artists and senior editors. Alumni, friends, and supporters are invited to the coffee that morning to visit, review old yearbooks, and participate in organizing the RHS Annual Staff Alumni Scholarship.
