Patriots sixth going into final round

It may have been raining in north Alabama for the past few days, but the Northwest-Shoals Community College golf team has been enjoying winter weather, south Florida style.
The Patriots shot a 301-299 on Monday at the Brevard Community College Tournament in Melbourne, Florida, and were in sixth place out of 12 teams heading into Tuesday's final round of the 54-hole match.
The Patriots took advantage of the friendly conditions to fire a 301 on the first 18 holes, putting them in second place overall.
The Patriots, who finished their fall schedule ranked No. 11 in the nation, were just two strokes out of third place heading into Tuesday's final 18.
Russellville graduate Justin Boyles shot 75-79 on Monday, playing at No. 4 for the Patriots.
Fellow Russellville graduate Trey Wooten is also a member of the Patriot golf team, though he did not make the trip to Melbourne.
Former Russellville standout Clay Wilson helped the Patriots climb up the national rankings in the fall, finishing second at the UNA Invitational and fourth at a tournament in Biloxi.
Clark said that Wilson finished one credit hour short of being academically eligible to play in the spring.
