Rushing thanking county with banquet

By Staff
Jason Houston FCT Managing Editor
Franklin County District Attorney-elect Joey Rushing said he couldn't adequately thank everyone who supported him, but he's going to give it a try tomorrow night at a reception that is open to the public.
Rushing will be sworn in by District Judge Paula McDowell Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. at a special ceremony at the A.W. Todd Centre in Russellville.
After the swearing-in, there will be a meal provided and live music by the Kerry Gilbert Band, well-known local musicians who have performed at Jonathan's and Hunter's Hideaway.
Rushing won the position in November's general election, defeating Republican Lee Osborn by a wide margin. Osborn was appointed as District Attorney in April by Gov. Bob Riley.
Due to considerations about the amount of food to prepare, Rushing asks everyone wishing to attend to call 331-9755 to reserve a spot.
Rushing officially takes office on Monday, Jan. 17. Since that day is a federal holiday, his first official work day will be Jan. 18. But the swearing-in can take place before the official first day; the certificate goes into effect on Jan. 17.
Rushing said the invitation to the event is good for anyone, whether the attendee voted for him or not.
