King: Be wary of tsunami scams

In the aftermath of the tragic South Asian tsunami, millions of Americans have given donations to assist in the relief effort.
Alabamians, traditionally ranked among the highest in the nation in charitable giving, have also responded to help.
But along with inspirational stories of giving in tragedies comes despicable tales of those who seek to scam and rob from generous people.
Alabama Attorney General Troy King issued a press release this week urging Alabama residents to be cautious with their financial support for the tsunami victims.
King suggests that contributors make sure they are dealing with charitable organizations they are familiar with, such as the Red Cross, who have track records and histories that can easily be verified. Reputable and established relief organizations are more likely to be better equipped to assist victims faster and more effectively.
King offered the following points of advice on giving to the victims:
