Haunted house promises to be a scare

Those in need of a good, old-fashioned scare this Halloween can find it at a haunted house in downtown Meridian.
The Meridian Downtown Association is sponsoring the event tonight and Saturday from 7 p.m.-11 p.m. in the BellSouth Building at 23rd Avenue and Seventh Street. Admission is $5; children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Q-101 will broadcast live both nights. Cokes and pizza will be sold.
Local businesses and organizations are sponsoring rooms. Each room will have a theme.
Radio station Q-101 is doing a chain saw scene. Radio station 103.3 is presenting a graveyard scene. The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department, in conjunction, with Mitchell Companies is sponsoring an outdoor scene. The haunted house ends with a human maze.
Jason Combs and his friends from Bailey community are sponsoring one of the rooms. Combs and the guys have experience with haunted houses. For several years, they have hosted one at the Old Bailey Store, but this year they were invited to be part of the downtown haunted house.
Combs said their room will have several "high-tech" features.
The Downtown Association is sponsoring the event to draw more people to the downtown area.
The Holiday Open House is set for Nov. 18-20, and includes a shopping tournament. For more information, call Pearson at 482-6699.
