Local fire dept. gets '05 grant

Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) announced this week that fire departments in Beaverton, Ethelsville, Fayette, Hayden, and Russellville have been awarded federal grants as part of the 2004 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, which Congress funds with $750 million to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the United States Fire Administration (USFA).
The program's purpose is providing fire departments the needed resources to enhance the health and safety of the public and firefighting personnel.
Approximately 638 Alabama fire departments requested a total of $77, 327, 967 from this year's program. Funds are released in four categories: fire operations and firefighter safety, the fire prevention programs, the emergency medical services program and the firefighting vehicle acquisition program. Departments funded received grants to be used in the area of operations and firefighter safety and include the following:
