Police Warn Against Vandalism in City
Russellville police chief Mack Kimbrough has warned against rowdyism and vandalsim here over the coming Halloween.
The police force, he said, will keep a close watch for any acts that might be injurious to people or destructive to property.
Chief Kimbrough further advised residents to leave their porch lights burning all night and suggested that store window lights be left on downtown.
Meantime, Halloween parties were on tap in most Franklin County communities for the weekend.
Sheriff's Forces Arrest Two at Still in Raid Sunday
Sheriff J. Stratt Byars, ABC Agent Penny Summers and the sheriff's deputies destroyed a 400-gallon capacity still Sunday night, Oct. 24, around 10:15 p.m.
There were 35 gallons already run-off and Wilbert Harris, 19, and Willie Keeton, 43, were still in the process of running off the whiskey at the time of the raid.
The raid was at the still about 12 miles northeast of Red Bay. This was the 42nd still destroyed by the Franklin County Sheriff's forces this year.
Concord Workers Vote to Join Garment Union
Employees of Concord Supplies &Equipment Corp., Russellville, have voted to affiliate with United Garment Workers, American Federation of Labor.
Workers last Thursday voted for the union to serve as their bargaining representatives 545 to 300.
Official recognition of unionization is expected from Concord's main office in New York in the near future, according to Joe Martin, Russellville plant supervisor.
