Time winding down for football

By Staff
As hard as it is to believe, even as we type the words, the football regular season is nearing its end.
It seems like just last week that teams were buckling their chin straps for the start of fall practice, but now only three weeks remain before the 2004 playoffs begin. My, how the season has flown by!
As the saying goes, time flies when you're having fun. And the more you win, the more fun you have. Football teams in Franklin County have certainly done their share of winning this year.
The Red Bay Tigers have won 14 straight regular season games dating back to Week 4 of last season. They have risen to No. 3 in the Class 2A rankings.
The Tigers can clinch the Region championship tonight with a victory over county rival Phil Campbell at Fred Bostick, Jr. Memorial Stadium in Red Bay.
Speaking of Phil Campbell, the Bobcats have put together a strong season despite playing a brutally tough schedule.
Phil Campbell needs a win tonight over its arch-rivals to remain in the hunt for a playoff berth.
The end of the regular season may be drawing near, but the Russellville Golden Tigers are hoping to once again play into the month of December. The Golden Tigers have climbed all the way to No. 2 in the 5A poll, winning six straight games since a season-opening loss to Deshler.
The Golden Tigers are on the verge of clinching their fourth consecutive region crown.
Last, but certainly not least, the Vina Red Devils are in the midst of their strongest season in years. With three games left, the Red Devils have a shot at both a winning season and a playoff berth.
Whether you're traveling to Cullman tonight for the Russellville game or heading to Red Bay for the "Battle of the Big Cats," please drive carefully.
