Today is Friday, October 15, 2004. Expect partly cloudy skies today and windy with a high of 63 degrees. Today is also National Poetry Day and National Grouch Day. On this day in history:
1881 – The first fishing magazine, "American Angler," is published.
1921 – Mario Puzo, author of The Godfather, is born.
1939 – New York City's LaGuardia Airport opens.
1949 – Billy Graham begins his ministry.
1951 – "I Love Lucy" debuts on CBS television.
1966 – President Johnson signs a bill establishing the Department of Transportation.
1977 – Debbie Boone's hit "You Light Up My Life" begins a ten week run as the number one song in the country.
1988 – Kirk Gibson of the Los Angeles Dodgers hits a dramatic game winning two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth in the first game of the World Series.
1991 – Clarence Thomas is confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice.

How about closing with the number one dumb criminal for the past week? A 17-year-old male in Calgary, Canada, was arrested for robbing a prostitute at knife point. While looking through her purse he found an eviction notice and commented that he would rent her an apartment in his basement then gave her his home phone number. Police called him and gave him the number one jail cell at the lock up.
