Northeast Lauderdale blanks league foe

Northeast Lauderdale head girls slow-pitch softball coach Chris Harper got just what he was looking for on Tuesday night.
The Lady Trojans, who were visibly sluggish early, exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on the way to a 10-0 division win over visiting Louisville High School at the Northeast Softball Complex.
Just one day earlier the Lady Trojans had taken an 8-7 win over No.8-ranked Meridian High School.
The Lady Trojans, now 8-9 on the season and 2-2 and solidly in third place in division play, played solid defense throughout, making just one error on the day.
Harper said the youth of his team still shows up from time-to-time.
Northeast took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, thanks to singles by Logan Olczak, Kaley Hull and Leanne Young and an infield error on the LHS Lady Wildcats.
The fifth-inning explosion was fueled by singles off the bats of Britt Ford, Mallory Pace, Shelley Odom, Savannah Hall, Megan Winborn and Eliza Gavin.
The Lady Trojans won the the run rule by scoring three times in the bottom of the sixth inning. Northeast actually scored four runs in the bottom of the inning, but the game was officially over when the 10th run of the game scored.
Odom had three hits to pace Northeast Lauderdale, while Young and Winborn had two hits each.
Northeast had 13 hits, while Louisville had just four, with two of those coming off the bate of Akenia Love.
NEL returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Noxubee County at 5 p.m.
