Birdies add up for Swain, Aycock at NCC

It doesn't take a mathematician to figure out how to post low scores in a scramble make more birdies than pars and don't post any bogeys.
That's certainly the formula that Kelly Swain and Early Aycock have been following over the first two days of the Northwood Country Club Labor Day Scramble, as they hold a one-stroke lead going into today's final round.
Over the first 36 holes Swain and Aycock have put up 22 birdies and 14 pars on the way to a 60-60-120.
Jason Anders and Chuck Gordon, who led after day one with a 59, rallied with three birdies over the last four holes to post a 62 and stand in second with a 121.
Anders looks for the scoring to be tougher today.
The team of Scott Morgan and Judge Little are in third with a 61-62 123, while Bilbo Mitchell And Dan Angero are fourth at 124, after putting up a 60 on Saturday. Rob Bullock and Tommy Little are fifth with a 125.
The top four flights are set to tee off at 1 p.m., while flights five through eight will tee off at 8:30 a.m.
Briarwood Labor
Day Four-Ball
The second day of the Briarwood Country Club Labor Day Four-Ball Golf Tournament came down to chipping.
Billy McWilliams chipped in for birdie on hole No. 11 and teammate Robert Sanford one-upped that with a chip-shot eagle on No. 12 on the way to a one-stroke lead going into today's final round.
Sanford and McWilliams carded a 67 on Sunday to go with Saturday's 66 to post a 133, one stroke better than the 134 of first-round leaders Benji Carpenter and Justin Catlett.
Carpenter and Catlett fired a 64 on Saturday, but had two bogeys and four birdies for a 70 on Sunday. Rex Gentry and Colton Tisdale are third at 238.
Sanford and McWilliams, who were paired with Carpenter and Catlett were actually trailing by one stroke with two holes to go. But after the Sanford-McWilliams team birdied No. 17, Catlett and Carpenter bogeyed the closing hole.
The championship, first and second flights tee off at 1:30 p.m. today at BCC, while the third and fourth flights begin at 8:30 a.m.
