Gordon, Anders hold edge at NCC; Catlett, Carpenter lead at BCC

The good news for Chuck Gordon and Jason Anders Saturday was their 12-under par 59 was the day's best in the opening round of the Labor Day Scramble at Northwood Country Club.
The bad news was that it didn't give them much of a cushion from the remainder of the field.
Gordon and Anders shot a sizzling 7-under par back nine en route to their 59. They had birdies on Nos. 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, and 18. They also had birdies on Nos. 1, 3, 6, 8, and 9 on the front side.
Two teams were just one stroke behind the leaders and they got there in nearly identical manners. Kelly Swain and Earl Aycock shot a 28 on the front nine with a string of five straight birdies on Nos. 3-7. They also birdied Nos. 1 and 9. On the back nine, they birdied Nos. 10, 13, 14, and 16 in posting an 11-under par 60.
The team of Dan Angero and Bilbo Mitchell also fired a 28-32–60. They had five straight birdies from Nos. 4-8 to go with additional birdies on Nos. 1, 2, 14, 16, 17, and 18.
Two strokes at 61 back are the teams of Randy Pool and Robert Bailey and Judge Little and Scott Morgan.
Pool and Bailey had an eagle on No. 16 and birdies on Nos. 1, 3, 6, 7, 11, 12, 14, 15, and 17. They also had a bogey on No. 8.
Little and Morgan had birdies on Nos. 1, 3, 6, 8, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18.
Three strokes off the lead is the team of Rob Bullock and Tommy Little at 62. They had birdies on Nos. 4, 5, 6, 9, 12, 13, 16, 17, and 18.
Three teams were tied at 63. They are the duos of Doyle Bryan and Robert Smith, Caleb Davis and Keith Davis, and Herb Bruister and Stephen Covington.
Bryan and Smith had birdies on Nos. 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 16, and 18.
The Davises had birdies on Nos. 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, and 18 to go with an eagle on No. 16.
Completing the championship flight with 64s are the teams of Bubba Hanna and Ronny Loeb, Tommy Robinson and Ken Densmore, and Sidney Bowers and Dennis Foster.
Briarwood Labor
Day Four-Ball
Benji Carpenter and Justin Catlett fired an 8-under par 64 to take a two-stroke lead after one round of the Labor Day Four-Ball at Briarwood Country Club.
Two strokes back at 66 are Billy McWilliams and Robert Sanford.
In third place, five strokes off the lead, are the teams of Rex Gentry and Colton Tisdale and Wayne Shelton and Marcus Willis.
Tied at 70 are the teams of Robert Hood and Tootie Ellis and Jordy Hayden and Derrik Smith.
Completing the championship flight at 71 are the teams of Tom Luke and John Oliver, Benji Baskin and Stan Fisher, and Cliff Henderson and Tom Warden.
