Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers urged residents on Friday to have a safe Labor Day weekend at Okatibbee Lake by observing key water safety rules.
They said people should check their boating safety equipment, always wear life jackets when boating, check the weather forecast, swim in designated areas, never swim alone and monitor their children.
Officials also said boating and alcohol don't mix.
