Conference to include president of National Alzheimer's Association

The 5th Annual Conference on Alzheimer's Disease and Other Dementia is set to start a three-day run on Tuesday at the Silver Star Resort &Casino near Philadelphia.
The conference is designed to educate and train people involved in the care of anyone with Alzheimer's disease and psychiatric disorders.
Objectives include discussions on clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment of the elderly with mental illness, dementia and substance abuse; estate planning; services for the aging; depression; spirituality; therapeutic activities; and safety issues.
The conference is sponsored by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health and continuing education credit is available for people who work with Alzheimer's patients.
Highlights include the following:
Peter Rabins: The author of "The 36-Hour Day" is scheduled to give an update on Alzheimer's disease from 9 a.m.-10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Sheldon Goldberg: The president and chief executive officer of the National Alzheimer's Association is scheduled to discuss the Alzheimer's Association from 1:30 p.m.-2:45 p.m. Tuesday.
A legislative forum: State Rep. Greg Snowden, R-Meridian; state Sen. Terry C. Burton, R-Newton; state Sen. Jack Gordon, D-Okolona; state Sen. Sampson Jackson, D-DeKalb; and state Sen. Gloria Williamson, D-Philadelphia, are scheduled to participate in a forum from 3 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The conference: The 5th Annual Conference on Alzheimer's Disease and Other Dementia, set for Tuesday through Thursday at the Silver Star Resort &Casino in Philadelphia.
The cost: Preregistration is $100 for the full conference, $125 at the door. Participants can register for any one day of the conference at a reduced rate. Registration for students and people over 60 is $25.
