Browns take overall title in Northwood family event

Last weekend's golf tournament at Northwood Country Club was a family affair.
Nearly 80 teams competed in the club's Family Scramble Tournament, which was held Saturday and Sunday. The top finishers were the championship flight winners, Ivan Cobb and Makenzie Cobb, and the overall winners, Ed Brown and Eddie Brown.
The Browns finished second in the championship flight but first overall because of a rule regarding starting points. Golfers age 10 and under started each hole farther up the course than other competitors, so while they remain eligible in the championship flight, they were not allowed to compete for the overall title.
"We've been doing this tournament ever year for about 11 or 12 years now," said Jimmy Gamblin, Northwood's club pro. "Our board is very committed to this tournament because we have such a big junior golf program. This is one of the largest events of its type in the state."
Ivan Cobb and Michael Cobb won the first flight. Buddy Morgan and Scott Morgan won the second flight, while David Bailey and Brad Bailey won the third flight.
Shot Sikes and Spencer Sikes won the fourth flight, and Bucky Phillippi and Katie Phillippi won the fifth flight. Sammy Broadhead and Justin Broadhead won the sixth flight.
